How do I activate a drum sound (or sample I imported to a drum pad) without actually hearing the sound during a live performance?

The issue is when Im performing and want to play some live melodies on the external keyboard, the default note that you hear when you choose a drum sound is not necessarily the correct one I need. So it sounds like a mistake to the audience. I really there should be a way to navigate to the sound you want, then I can start playing the melody on the keyboard when Im ready.
